During the fall season, the Cass Wildcats had to adjust to the weather with a lot of rain.. This caused a lot of chaos during the fall because of so many games getting moved or tournaments getting cancelled. The Wildcats already have a short softball season, and with the rain cancelling games, it made it even shorter.

With all this rain, the seniors were very unlucky with their final season being smaller. Senior night got moved three different times. They didn’t even have the chance to play their final game at home. They have to have their senior night at a football game with the football players, and the cross country runners. On September 19th, our Saturday tournament was also cancelled. The last two to three weeks of the season, a lot of games were moved, and ended up being cancelled because of the rain. September 24th, a game against Tekamah Herman was cancelled. October 1st, a game against Raymond Central was cancelled. The Cats never got to play Fort Calhoun in a regular season game, besides in conference.

Senior Zoey Powles said, “Especially since senior night is getting moved so much, I feel like I'm not getting that moment to be like, ‘oh it’s my final season, here I am.’”

At the beginning of the season, the softball team faced a different challenge along with the rain. Mother Nature struck again. The temperature was stuck at 98 to 100 degrees outside. Some of the games were pushed back because of the heat, making JV start an hour later, along with varsity.

Stephanie Holdsworth said, “In the beginning of the season, we couldn’t even practice outside because of the heat.”

The seniors this season had a great impact on the team.

Junior Brooke Sorensen said, “ The seniors have shown me how to be a good teammate, and bring a light to the team.”

Even though the season was short, and rainy, they made the best of it. The seniors helped everyone by showing what the team has to do, and what everything looks like with warm ups, and games.

Holdsworth said, “It’ll be an adjustment you know, losing our two starting pitchers, and great leadership in the outfield. One of our main positions, and we’re losing 2 out of the 3 starting outfielders. We definitely have to work on the outfield in the offseason, and who’s going to step into those roles. But we definitely have big shoes to fill.”
