LINE 'EM UP. Cars lined up and parked in the new senior parking lot, nearest to the activities entrance.

After years and years of fighting for the Louisville school bond to pass, it finally did in late 2025. It took five long years of parents, students, and business owners rallying for a better future for their youth. But, with the countless expansions set in place, the bond is not going to be a quick success. It won’t be fully completed until June of 2028, and students won’t access other things like gyms or classrooms until January 2027. Since that’s still pretty far away, the admin decided to make a way for the current seniors to actually get something from the bond. The first add on of the bond was a brand new parking lot, right next to school doors. It was completed late August, 2026. The admin ultimately decided that it should be for staff and seniors only.

Since everyone else has to park in one of the two lots further from the entrance, there have been a lot of strong opinions about this exclusion of all underclassmen from using the new lots. Some have even noticed the fact that the parking lot never even reaches full capacity; as it has a whopping 127 spots.

Brookelynn Peterson, a sophomore at Louisville, said, “If it’s not full, and underclassmen aren’t parking in the front, then there is no reason we shouldn’t be able to park there, but I know it’s important that they should get to experience the bond too. That’s why I do understand why it should only be for them, but it’s also frustrating because it’s never full!”

Other than the typical debate of seniority, there have actually been some concerns coming up about the parking lot.

Senior Brylee Peterson said, “The parking lot is just super tight, in the areas between parking spots, you can’t even fit two cars.”

Senior Kaleb Maaske added, “I can’t even fit the rig [(his beloved truck]) into the spots. They are way too small.”

On the contrary, Brookelynn Peterson added, “I actually do understand why the parking lot is so tight; and I think they made so many spots for the space that they had. Had they not crammed spots in, they probably wouldn’t even fit all of the staff and seniors; let alone any underclassmen.”

The senior parking lot has already caused controversy in the bond, but it’s also a wonderful addition. Even though some underclassmen may argue about being left out, this is the only part of the bond that they will not get to experience to its full potential.

“Everyone else gets to experience the bond: the new gym, the new classrooms. I mean, the current juniors even get to be the first grade graduating from our new school,” said superintendent Mr. Haecker.

The bond is already bringing so much to the school, one short year in.
