There wasn’t a single silent moment as the Louisville High School volleyball team took on the Arlington Eagles for senior night on September 17.
Every year the seniors on the volleyball team like to acknowledge teachers that have impacted their life. Seniors choose a special teacher for this game. Third grade teacher Amber Engel was honored by senior Brylee Peterson during the night. Being recognized was special for Engel. She was able to watch Brylee grow up and have a relationship with her throughout her life.
“As a 3rd grade teacher and this being a K-12 building, it is so awesome to watch past students grow and become involved in so much,” Engel said.
Art teacher Ms. Kassidy Oliver, who was recognized by Whitney Haynes, was so happy to be honored by such a special student.
“It meant the world to me as this is only my second year teaching. I wanted to honor Whitney for choosing me, so I created a t-shirt with her last name and number on the back,” Oliver said.
As the game started, the students section was going crazy. The crowd was full of people. Every point the energy got more and more intense.
“We feed off some of the players’ energy; when the players are playing well we get hype,” senior Lilly Bax said.
The players loved the energy through the crowd and that was carried through the game.
“We are so thankful for the student section and support team cheering us on even when we are at our lowest,” sophomore setter Maci Zwiener said.
It was a great game for multiple players including Haynes. Haynes is a senior who plays the outside position. It was an extra special night for her as she got her 500th kill.
“I feel like I did my job by getting the stats that I wanted,” Haynes said.
The Lions won the first set, but dropped the second before going on to win the third and fourth sets, winning the match.
The team felt an added pressure to get that win. The whole team had family there cheering them on and wanted to impress all the people that showed up to support them.
“We all really wanted to win the game because it meant a lot to the seniors,” Zwiener said.
The student section ended the night by chanting “thank you seniors” in appreciation for all the senior players for all they have contributed to the team.
