Do you like writing? Or how about capturing photos? Maybe even editing other people's work? If you said yes to any of these questions, you're in luck! Louisville Public Schools offers an elective that has all of these attributes. The class is known as journalism.  To succeed in journalism, you have to be willing to collaborate and meet your deadlines. Deadlines are essential to the class. For the most part, you will get to pick when your own assignments are due. This means you are responsible for your own work.

You get to pick between elementary, middle, and high school. Don't worry, you aren't limited to just one. In fact, most people have a page in elementary and high school.

At the beginning of the year, you will be introduced to the main parts of journalism. This includes writing, photography, and editing. Field trips are a great way to learn all the new information.

In high school, you will have pages for activities, clubs, and sports. This is where collaboration comes into play because if you can't get to an activity to take pictures, you can ask around the journalism class. Usually, a few people step up to help out. Another great thing about journalism is that the upperclassmen who have already been in journalism will help you out with any questions.

As a class, you will get to pick a theme for both yearbooks. Anyone can give ideas and suggestions. For example, this year's theme was Lions New Groove, which is a movie. You base the colors and theme on that choice.

Every other week in journalism, you will have an assignment called photo noms. Throughout the week, you will take pictures of students and activities. You get to create a caption for each photo that describes the picture.

Editing is a big part of the journalism class. You are encouraged to get your stuff done early so you have more time for editing. For the work to be the very best, it's good to have a couple of sets of eyes on it and give you suggestions.

Overall, journalism is a very unique and fun class that Louisville offers for high school students. If you like writing, taking photos, and editing, journalism is a great option for you!
