Every Tuesday at Louisville High School, there is a program called Character Strong. The program is meant to inform students about the factors of mental health and how to have an impact on someone's day. It is run by our teachers, and our school bought it to use.

For some background, this program started a year ago in the spring/winter, and ever since it has taken place in Pride Time. Pride Time is known to be a study hall for students and a time for students to get their work done. A lot of students have an opinion on the program and want their study hall time on Tuesdays to be their time, just like every other day. Some teachers will use the whole pride time, while others will do it in 5 minutes. This is a problem because if the lesson is important, some classes won't learn the same material as other classes.

This has been shown by seeing if teachers are actually getting the message through in class. The program has a lot of benefits if used correctly, but a lot of the being said is common sense. All of the kids learning from it are bored and like to rush through it.

This program costs money; it can easily be $6,000- $8,000 in total. This money could be used on so many other activities and put to better use. Going along with that, there is no progress being seen from this program. It is a joke to most people, you will hear in the halls, ¨Dont say that, Character Strong taught you better.¨

The program can be used for younger kids, but it just doesn't work how the school thought it would. It was worth doing for one year, but now it is not working, and we would rather have our Pride Times back.
