ACHIEVEMENT. The elementary student council standing infront of their hard work. These kids raised money to make a lasting impact on their school.

The Louisville Public Schools admin team has been working to improve the atmosphere at Louisville. They have started to put up graphics, starting with the elementary entrance and the wrestling room. These graphics are meant to help the students. The admin team consists of Mr. Soester, Mr. Walker, Mr. Haecker, Mr. Casart, Mr. Simons, Mrs. Behounek, and Mrs. Alpsteg.

“Anytime you have a mural, [it] just kind of adds something to your culture, climate, and just the feel of the building … The graphics help add more warmth and welcoming to the building instead of just having a blank, white wall,” Superintendent Kolin Haecker said.

The idea of the weight room graphic was to help inspire people to keep going. The graphic said; “It’s not over when you lose, it’s over when you quit.”

“Another staff member sent me the quote, and it really just stuck because the quote portrays that even if I don’t win, the only time I don’t get better is if I stop,” Haecker said.

Now the admin team isn’t the only people who have helped with these graphics. For the elementary graphic, the elementary student council has been looking to find a way to give back to the school. The elementary student council consists of fifth graders Kate Boyle, Evelyn Schliefert, and Graham Dimas, and sixth graders Jessica Winkler, Harper Toelle, and Aiden Snyder. For the past five years, the elementary student council has been raising funds to make a lasting impression on the school.

“During the week of parent-teacher conferences, we did a free-will donation bake sale. I loved baking the chocolate chip cookies for the bake sale,” said Harper Toelle.

“We looked at doing something like playground equipment, but over time that starts to wear and tear, and then we got to talking more, and the idea of graphics came up,” said Mrs. Behounek.

After the student council decided what they were going to do, they had to start asking questions like, What’s the design going to be like and What’s it going to say?

Now that the graphics are up. What’s next?

Haecker said, “I think we have a few more graphics in mind, some of them being safety graphics on the outside of the building. Down at the elementary end, the graphics feature lion cubs, and where they start as lion cubs, and then as we go through the building, the lions get bigger.”

With the new construction happening at LPS, the ideas are endless to help create a better environment. Many ideas are in the making, and after construction, those ideas might become a reality.
