In her first year of teaching at Louisville, Ms. Holdsworth took over the role as FBLA sponsor. While Future Business Leaders of America has been in Louisville for a number of years, this year it’s different.
“It’s more serious than ever before,” stated second year member, junior Holly Haworth.
FBLA has always been a pretty challenging activity for many members, challenging their brains and social skills; in situations like speaking at conferences or colleges.
“It’s one of those non-sport activities that actually pushes you,” said junior Sidney Bennett.
One thing that really sticks out about FBLA is its application to the real world and college-like situations.
FBLA provides students with confidence, problem solving, and experience to get them ready for the real world where their career may challenge them.
Overall, students are able to go to conventions where they learn and listen to well-rounded professionals, who tell students the best way to succeed in a business environment. Students also learn to be more expressive with their thoughts, as they speak on their beliefs at conventions.
Haworth stated, “It’s really cool that testing at one of the conferences can literally save you thousands of dollars in college.”
There are also multiple new members this year who are ready to get the year rolling.
Juniors Carly Haun and Lilly Bax are two of those members. They notecd,“We just thought it would be a good idea to join, and also help our community through the projects.” Some of the project options are: GreenHouse building in the root of your community, volunteering at shelters or with the elderly, and recycling programs.
The program has seen more success than ever before and this is thanks to the members and their creative ideas, and the new teacher: Mrs. Holdsworth.
First year FBLA president, junior Peyton Lutz shared her ideas about giving back. “I think we could definitely donate Christmas presents and other things to make holidays still really special for people, even if they are struggling financially.”
If there’s any program in the Louisville area that helps with future careers and working with others, it’s FBLA.
