Student Council is a program that many apply for just to look good on a resume. While yes, that’s the truth, StuCo is so much more powerful than that. This year, the councils theme is “Born to be a Leader.” They have made jumps and been more involved than ever before.
“This year our focus has mostly been on foster care, just donating to people who are less fortunate than us”, said sponsor Mrs. Frahm Krick.
This has been made possible by the donations of those in the council. Through outrageous generosity of the Student Council members, they were able to donate shampoos and body washes to a conference and create over 200 bags with necessities for kids in foster care.
“Born to be a Leader” is also shown in their various leaders. Yuki Hagge, a freshman, talked about her experience being led by upperclassmen. “I definitely am able to look up to them, and bounce my ideas off of students even if they are older than me.”
The main focus has been student-run meetings, where president senior Beatrice Quam addresses the room.
“The meetings have been really productive and also creative,” said four-year member Drezik Ahlers.
These students also plan big events in the school, including homecoming and homecoming week, prom, and other community involvement events.
“I definitely feel like a stronger member of the school, and even of Louisville,” Hagge noted.
Mrs. Frahm Krick reflected on the members and their work ethic. “They really are a great bunch of kids, who do things for the betterment of others.”
The council is also running a food drive for the holidays, where they will donate food to the local food bank inside of Hope’s Closet. They’ve also been brainstorming ways to fundraise, and be overall more involved.
“I know the girls had mentioned painting the ladies' nails at the care center, and I thought that was very thoughtful,” said Mrs. Frahm Krick.
All of their ideas end in a final goal: to donate the profits to a type of charity.
Overall, student council is an incredibly involved program, helping in all of Louisville; wherever they are needed most.
