When many think of fall, they think of an orange and round decoration, that many use on their porches. For people in Louisville, this can be accessed easily at the school thanks to SkillsUSA.
Every year, students in this program go out to the Franke Farm and snip and pick up pumpkins. Mr. Schulze and Mr. Zweep are the sponsors of this, and they bring students out in vans.
However, Mr. Franke’s generosity is the reason that this event even gets to happen. He donates his entire field to kindergarteners and first graders, and the remainder to SkillsUSA.
This year, SkillsUSA students filled (to the brim) a large trailer. There are pumpkins of every color: dark green, light green, orange, and green mixed with orange.
One really special thing about this experience is that it unites both middle schoolers and high schoolers. Both groups shared a common ground of hard work and laughter.
Jack Kilton, who is a freshman, picked pumpkins for the first time this year. “It was really cool that we could get a group of members together to help the community,” he said.
These pumpkins are sold outside of the shop (near the activities entrance). Every day after school, Mr. Shulze and/or Mr. Zweep sitting with the pumpkins, selling them at a very low price to students, teachers, and parents.
